Which Cultures Make the Best Cakes?

Which Cultures Make the Best Cakes? My husband says when it comes to baking, nobody beats out the Greeks and the Jews. We all have our preferences and there is not one person in the world who can say that their specific food tastes is “the right food taste”.

Take me for example. I grew up using Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines cake mixes. The first time I ever ate a piece of cake made from scratch, my mouth didn't know what had happened. It was the mostest bestest softest wonderfullest piece of loving joy ever!  Cake is love!

Needless to say cake baking is not my forte. But I do love a great cake. It would be right to say that cake loving IS my forte.  💗

Honestly! If Queen Marie Antoinette had really said “Let them eat cake!” and I had been in earshot distance, I would have been “Where?!! Where??!! Where's the cake??!!”

Recently, I've been coming across recipes shared by my online friends from different countries and also from food newsletters that I subscribe to and it's got me dreaming and wishing I could enjoy all of these wonderful baked delights without having to concern myself with the possible ill effects of consuming too much sugar. Alas! There is diabetes in my family line and I just don't want to take any chances.

Most of the time, I enjoy cakes by just looking at them or maybe taste a teeny weeny sample. ☺

But some cakes are far too pretty and unusual to eat. Don't you think?  Like these incredible jelly cakes.

Stunning Edible Flower Jelly Cakes Blooming in Your Plate

These gorgeous jelly cakes came from 'La Floraison' in Sydney Australia. Like a Japanese rainbow cake these confections are almost too pretty to eat.

Some cakes are not even cakes. They're masterpieces. Works of art!

And then some cakes are dummy cakes. Dummy cakes? Yeah. New term I learned when I found a wedding cake by LeNovelle Cake that somebody shared via the Google Plus social network. Below is a photo of the most extraordinary dummy wedding cake I've ever seen.

What about you? Do you 💗 cake?

Favorite Delicatessen Food - Daily Two Cents

We are all grateful to the Earl of Sandwich. Legend says he was in a hurry one day, slapped a piece of meat between two pieces of bread and the sandwich was invented. Eh! That's the story I heard. Whoever! Thank you! :)

Anyway, here is a link to a post by a fellow freelance writer about favorite places to eat. Brought back nice memories. Best place to eat for a great sandwich is a kosher delicatessen. He recounts an experience at a restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida. My memories are from Miami Beach. Wherever! It's all good food. :)

Naples: The Birthplace of the Modern Pizza

"Pizza...who doesn't love it?  ... Italians take their food (and wine) seriously ... Pizza is no exception. ..."  Learn about the history of pizza and why it is associated with Naples.

I guess this article title is more accurate since it uses the phrase “Modern Pizza”. I've read some food history that wants to give the credit for inventing pizza to the Persians (see video below). Although I would be more than happy to give Naples for inventing pizza: be it ancient or modern. Nevertheless, whoever invented pizza I'm glad.  Pizza and cheesecake make the world a better place. 😋

Ever tried Slap Ya Mama seasonings?

Interesting name huh?. The way Walker & Sons advertise their food products is:

"Taste so good. Make you wanna slap ya mama!"

Say what??!! There is nothing in my entire life that I've eaten that ever made me want to slay my momma. But guess what? These are award-winning spice blends.

"Real Cajun Seasoning for Real Cajun Cooking."

How did I find out about these products? The Internet and Facebook, in particular, is a beautiful thing. This person saw my foodie website, Everyday Exotic Spices, which is advertised on Facebook via my business page, contacted me, and asked if they could send me samples. Of course, my response was “Yes!”
Received various products in a box delivered straight to my door. Tried them in different recipes and here's my reaction. Did I want to slap my momma? No. But I was ready go mano-y-mano with my spouse!
He wanted to keep it all to himself. I'm like: “Oh no! That ain't happening!!”

View the entire selection of Slap Ya Mama products.

    Below are my favorites.
