Ever heard of myLot? It's one of those social networking sites that pay you for just having discussions and being friendly. It's a neat way to earn some extra income. You can start discussions or chime on discussions already going on. It's lots of fun. The discussions I initiate are varied but of course, several of them are about food and drink or something food-related.  (NOTE:  Some of my content was removed from myLot but the links have been updated.)

There is no excuse for me not knowing this because the guy who decided to make sushi popular and a part of everyday American cuisine, started his business project in Texas. Yet I confess. I did not know. The shock for me was that even though I saw the word in my local grocery store, I never realized the word “sashimi” had any meaning. I thought it was a brand name. Duh! There is a difference between sushi and sashima. Did you know?

Foodie Friday : Let's Do Sushi! Keep It Kosher!

Determined to make your own sushi? The four ingredients listed below are considered the "basic sushi essentials".

  1. Gari, thinly sliced and pickled ginger.
  2. Wasabi, aka Japanese horseradish
  3. Nori, dried seaweed used to wrap the sushi roll
  4. Sushi rice, a Japanese rice that is sticky and short-grained.

Foodie Friday: What is your favorite sweet treat? (Mine is cheesecake.)

We all like a delightful sweet treat every once in a while. Call it a guilty pleasure. Call it an indulgence. Call it pampering yourself because you earned it, you deserve it, you're worth it!

There are so many different reasons for enjoying a sweet treat AND there are so many different sweet treats to choose from. Surely everyone has a favorite. Mine is cheesecake.

There was once a time when I could just say cheesecake. But now the question is asked: Americancheesecake or Japanese cheesecake? I'm like: WHAT??

OK. So now my response is modified. My favorite sweet treat is American cheesecake. Although, Japanese cheesecake is pretty good too!

Cheesecake is my favorite sweet treat. What's yours?

Food Blurb: Sharing a Soup Recipe That Soup Lovers Will Love

The classical music composer Ludwig van Beethoven once said “Only the pure in heart can make a good soup.”

Do you believe that soup is good food?  I do!  I also believe it's a food of love for families and having a pure heart when you make it for those you love, no doubt adds substantially to the flavor.

In a previous post I shared information about miso, which is a key ingredient in Japanese cuisine.  You can it ready-made off the grocery store shelf or make your own.

Some say the reason the Japanese live so long is because miso is an integral part of their diet. Maybe. Maybe not. I also read that soup should be an important of one's daily diet. They say you should eat a bowl of soup every day. I'm OK with that dietary advice. Even though January is National Soup Month, I could eat soup every month of the year, whether the weather is hot or cold. And I don't mean cold soups, because I'm not really a fan of cold soup. But if I was given only one hot bowl of soup every day to survive off, I could totally do that and be content. 

For me, the best part of any soup is … THE BROTH! 

You could have all kinds of ingredients in a soup … meat or no meat. But if the broth is tasteless, the soup is useless. The broth is all about comfort. Don't you think so? 

That's why I know this recipe which I am sharing is awesome! The ingredients for the broth are: “garlic, ginger, scallions, toasted sesame oil, miso and fermented chile paste”. 

How could you not love this soup? LOL.

Popular Diets. Which is Best? French, Greek or Japanese?

Eat like zee French!  NO!  Like the Greek!  No No!  Like the Japanese!  

  • Some say eat like the French. They knosh on cheese, drink red wine by the gallon, and cook with butter. They say it’s a healthy diet.

  • Some say eat like the Greeks. It’s that Mediterranean diet. They use lots of olive oil and eat yogurt. It’s a healthy diet.
  • Finally, others say we should eat like the Japanese. They claim the Japanese people live longer because they eat a lot of fish and pickle their vegetables.

Which country's diet have you copied?  Or do you just eat whatever is put on the table and ask no questions?

America’s food scene reflects a lot of cultural diversity so I can eat French, Greek, or Japanese. I don’t know if it will help me live longer, but the food sure does taste good! ☺
