Box Cake Mix or Cake From Scratch - Throw Down!

American TV personality Martha Stewart is the richest and most famous housekeeper/homemaker divas in the world.  Ms. Stewart's official Google Plus business page puts her occupation as “Businesswoman”.  It should say “Phenomenal Businesswoman par Excellence”.  In 2011, Forbes.com reported her net worth at $638 million; and in 2017, it was $970 million.

Michelle Wibowo's Sugar Art Is More Than Precious!

Don't you love it and hate it when food is too pretty to eat?

I have a dilemma. I'm torn.

On the one hand, I hate to waste food.

On the other hand, I love art! I especially love this woman's art!

Michelle Wibowo's sugar art is more than precious! (Pun intended.) It's priceless, inimitable and probably very delicious.


I say “probably” because personally, I would not dare eat any of it. I couldn't! I would just keep staring at it!!

Several years back I wrote an article about J. R. R. Tolkien, and in the process of doing the research came across this lady, Michelle Wibowo, who does sugar art. (Official website.)

This woman won a Gold Award at ICHF Cake International for her creation of Gollum in sugar art form. You know Gollum? The character from Tolkien's “The Lord of the Rings”. The one who says “My precious!”.

Ms. Wibowo's artwork is unbelievable.


Although to describe her work as "unbelievable" is an understatement. However, it's extremely difficult to come up with an accurate word or phrase to help you visualize her finished works.

I could say indescribably unbelievable masterpieces!


That's still inadequate. Once you've seen one or more of her completed works of art, you'll think that it deserves much much much much much much more commendation. Also, like me, you won't want to eat it. You'll likely keep staring at it and thinking: Is that really edible?! (O.o)

Ms. Mibowo was asked to make a birthday cake for a little girl who got to pick what she wanted her cake to be. The little girl wanted a recreation of the Yellow Brick Road and the characters from the Wizard of Oz. You should see this extreme cake!

Which Cultures Make the Best Cakes?

Which Cultures Make the Best Cakes? My husband says when it comes to baking, nobody beats out the Greeks and the Jews. We all have our preferences and there is not one person in the world who can say that their specific food tastes is “the right food taste”.

Take me for example. I grew up using Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines cake mixes. The first time I ever ate a piece of cake made from scratch, my mouth didn't know what had happened. It was the mostest bestest softest wonderfullest piece of loving joy ever!  Cake is love!

Needless to say cake baking is not my forte. But I do love a great cake. It would be right to say that cake loving IS my forte.  💗

Honestly! If Queen Marie Antoinette had really said “Let them eat cake!” and I had been in earshot distance, I would have been “Where?!! Where??!! Where's the cake??!!”



Recently, I've been coming across recipes shared by my online friends from different countries and also from food newsletters that I subscribe to and it's got me dreaming and wishing I could enjoy all of these wonderful baked delights without having to concern myself with the possible ill effects of consuming too much sugar. Alas! There is diabetes in my family line and I just don't want to take any chances.

Most of the time, I enjoy cakes by just looking at them or maybe taste a teeny weeny sample. ☺

But some cakes are far too pretty and unusual to eat. Don't you think?  Like these incredible jelly cakes.

And then some cakes are dummy cakes. Dummy cakes? Yeah. New term I learned when I found a wedding cake by LeNovelle Cake that somebody shared via the Google Plus social network. Below is a photo of the most extraordinary dummy wedding cake I've ever seen.
