However ... do you only go to Starbucks for the coffee? OK. It's true. They do have great coffee! But that's not all they've got!

Health and Wellness : Where to Find Advice on Healthy Eating and More!

Several years back, created a member profile on blackhistory.com. FYI. You don't have to be an African-American to join. Because my work-at-home projects are time consuming, my activity at this site fell by the wayside. My public profile is still available to view. The site has a blogging platform and you can also share links to your websites and blogs. Entrepreneurship is encouraged. This site also has a partner site, HBCU Connect. If you share a link or post content at one site, you can also publish it via the other site.

At this point you're probably thinking: “Uummm … How is this is food-related?”

OK. Thank you for your patience. Getting to the connection. As you know many African-Americans suffer from hypertension and diabetes; ailments that they need not suffer from if they would just change their diet! Understanding this, the site owners provide a link to a Health and Wellness Channel Sponsored by MerckEngage, a well-known leader in global healthcare. The channel is loaded with informative food-related health articles, free healthy recipe cookbooks (low sodium, low sugar, low calories, and low fat), and other health information.

Actually, the article that caught my eye wasn't about diabetes or high blood pressure. It was about my “weakness”: Chinese food! My husband and I love to eat out at Chinese restaurants.
The article was about choosing healthier options from the menu and had a handy chart of “Instead of” eating this, “Try” this. Below is link to that article and a sampling of other content you can find via this channel.

Mao Shing Ni (Dr. Mao), who is a board-certified anti-aging expert shares information about the 3 best spices for a longer life.

Before you click the link (below) to the original article, give yourself 3 chances to guess the right combination of 3 spices that have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and other Eastern traditions to cure common illnesses and maintain good health.  I only guessed one of the spices.  1 out of 3 is lower than a Grade F!!

But now that I know what they are, I'm glad they're common, inexpensive and very easy to find.  So I don't travel over land and sea in search of the 3 mythical spices from the lost country of "Where Did You Get that?!"

  • Saffron. This spice adds new flavors and colors in dishes cooked from rice. Saffron is very expensive as it is difficult to collect and ship this precious spice. However, you will need just a tiny bit of this spice, two or three stamens will be enough in order to make your dish incredibly delicious! Excessive use of saffron can actually ruin the dish. Scientists say that even a tiny amount of this spice increases sexual desire. In addition, saffron contains zinc, selenium, potassium, magnesium, and has antioxidant properties.
