Six (6)Trendy Recipes For a Quick Weeknight Dinner | Have Fun with ChatGPT

I used to watch cooking shows for meal ideas.  But today I experimented with the Free ChatGPT tool, and it generated six (6) easy recipes.  I am very pleased with the results.  Hope my blog visitors are too!

(P.S. You might want to write them down.  Most things are digital these days, but sometimes technology doesn't work.  Also, you could give them to a friend who decided to go off the grid.  LOL.  Always think old school. ๐Ÿ˜Š)

recipe cards

๐Ÿฅข (1) Gochujang Butter Noodles

I watched a Korean drama series, and the chef said gochujang was her special secret ingredient.  She carried a tube of it in her pocket.  I couldn't believe this was the first recipe that popped out!

A huge trend thanks to Korean-inspired comfort food.

  • Toss spaghetti with butter, garlic, a spoon of gochujang, soy sauce, and a splash of pasta water
  • Finish with parmesan and scallions
  • Optional: add shrimp or crispy mushrooms

๐Ÿ‘‰ Ready in ~20 minutes, deeply savory with a spicy kick

๐ŸŒฎ (2) Smash Burger Tacos

I live in Texas.  There's no such thing as a bad taco!

DID YOU KNOW a taco once traveled to space?

  • Astronaut Josรฉ M. Hernรกndez brought tortillas to space because tacos are easier to eat in zero gravity than bread. Bread crumbs float everywhere, but tortillas stay intact, so NASA started using them for meals on the Space Shuttle. You could say tacos are astronaut‑approved food (like Tang).

A mashup that went viral for a reason

  • Press seasoned ground beef directly onto a tortilla
  • Cook the beef side down in a hot pan
  • Flip, add cheese, then top with lettuce, pickles, and sauce

๐Ÿ‘‰ Fast, crispy, and way less effort than full burgers

๐Ÿœ (3) Coconut Curry Ramen

OK! I'm very pleased with this recipe because there was a Chinese restaurant I frequented, and one of my favorite dishes was the "Coconut Curry Shrimp".  Just add shrimp to this recipe.  I would leave the soft-boiled egg.  But that's just me.

A glow-up version of instant noodles

  • Simmer instant ramen (ditch the packet or use half)
  • Add coconut milk, curry paste, garlic, and ginger
  • Toss in spinach and a soft-boiled egg

๐Ÿ‘‰ Comfort food that feels elevated but takes ~15 minutes

๐Ÿฅ— (4) Green Goddess Grain Bowl

This one is for people looking for quinoa recipes.  I confess. My local grocery has ready-made quinoa dishes, so I never bothered to make my own.

Bright, herby, and very “wellness-core.”

  • Base: quinoa or rice
  • Add roasted veggies + avocado
  • Blend herbs, yogurt, lemon, and olive oil for dressing

๐Ÿ‘‰ Light but filling, great if you want something fresh

๐Ÿ— (5) Hot Honey Chicken Cutlets

Heat and honey?  Say no more.  I'm all in!

Sweet-spicy is everywhere right now

  • Pan-fry thin chicken cutlets
  • Drizzle with honey + chili flakes (or hot honey)
  • Serve with a quick salad or flatbread

๐Ÿ‘‰ Big flavor, minimal prep

๐Ÿซ“ (6) Cottage Cheese Flatbread

Flatbread is like the funnest food ever made!  Agree?  Flatbread is so old  ~ How old is it? ~ Archaeologists found a 14,000‑year‑old flatbread in Jordan, baked by hunter‑gatherers 4,000 years before farming even existed.  And of course, different cultures have different names for this food ~ naan, injera, pita, lavash, tortillas.  No matter.  It's all good.

Surprisingly viral and actually practical

  • Blend cottage cheese + flour + egg into a dough
  • Cook in a pan like a flatbread
  • Use for wraps, pizza base, or dipping

As always, thanks for stopping by Food Ways.

Irresistible Fun Food: Serve It ‘Au Gratin’ Style (Lots of Recipe-Sharing)

Gratiner is a French verb. In French cooking, you sprinkle bread crumbs and/or grated cheese on top of whatever is in the dish, and it’s yummy!

au gratin

Gratiner is a French verb.
In English, it means “to brown”. In French cooking, you sprinkle bread crumbs and/or grated cheese on top of whatever is in the dish, stick it in the oven, and brown the top. When you take the dish out of the oven and bring it to the table, you say it’s “au gratin”. If you had omitted that one cooking step, it would not be au gratin.

Can you remember the first time you ever tasted an Au gratin dish? My memory is kind of hazy, but I do believe it was several years back. I was invited out for a Thanksgiving dinner. Before that invitation, I had always enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday at home. My mom never varied her dishes. In fact, she never made anything, at any time of the year, that was “au gratin”. At the home of my friend, potatoes au gratin were served. It was delicious! From that time to this day, if I hear the words “au gratin”, I will more likely eat a double serving (and take some home for later).

There are so many ways to vary an au gratin dish. Use different kinds of bread crumbs, different types of cheeses, and all kinds of veggies. And seafood like crabmeat au gratin. Or fruit like bananas au gratin. It’s fun! Of course, it’s the type of dish you would probably only eat for a holiday or special occasion.

You’ll appreciate these au gratin recipes. Especially for the holidays.

Jam Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day ๐Ÿ’– (Reblog) ~ Fun Recipe for Cooking with Kids

Every once in a while, I stumble across a recipe that’s so charming it deserves a little spotlight of its own. These jam heart cookies are exactly that — sweet, simple, and perfect for Valentine’s Day baking.

Heart-shaped cookies in a plate

This recipe comes from Haley at If You Give a Blonde a Kitchen, a blog I discovered accidentally, while browsing for fun foodie recipes.  It looks like you can find a lot of well-tested baking recipes on this site. Haley's jam heart cookies are a buttery shortbread-style cookie, shaped into hearts and filled with bright raspberry jam. They’re festive without being fussy, and the ingredient list is refreshingly simple.

Ne
wbie cooks or bakers will especially appreciate how clearly this recipe is explained. Haley walks through shaping the dough, filling the cookies cleanly, and baking them so they hold their shape and stay tender. These are the kind of homemade cookies that look impressive on a plate but are totally doable for home bakers.

A little cookie history.  DID YOU KNOW?

Jam-filled cookies like these are cousins of traditional thumbprint cookies, which have roots in Scandinavian baking (you might know them as hallongrotta, or “raspberry caves”). Over time, bakers have adapted the shape and flavors, and turned them into hearts, which feels like a natural evolution for Valentine’s Day.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful homemade treat, a baking project to share with kids, or just an excuse to work jam into dessert (always a good idea), bookmark this.

Happy baking — and happy Valentine’s season?๐Ÿ’–

Foodie Nuggets: Why I Like Black Food

Black jobs might be a figment of former President Trump’s imagination but black food is real! It is both delicious and nutritious.

I never liked black food. Unless it’s ice cream. Just kidding.

When I used to think of black food I thought people were saying that the food was burnt. But that’s not so. I discovered that there is black ice cream, there are black vegetables, and people intentionally add certain ingredients, like charcoal or squid ink, to make the food black.

Doing research I discovered that in London, they have a Black Food Festival. But don’t be confused. The food isn’t the color “black”. It’s called Black Eats Fest and it celebrates food from Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond. It’s a celebration of culinary diversity.

This content is about food that is the color “black”. It’s a brief introduction by way of sharing fun facts, which are the reasons why I like black food.

(1) Black foods are not just a novelty; they have great nutritional value. So when people tell you “eat the rainbow”, be sure to add black veggies to your diet. Learn more: Exotic Vegetables: Do You Include Black Veggies When You Eat the Rainbow?

(2) At one time, in ancient China, there was black rice (some say dark purple), which was also known as “forbidden rice”. It wasn’t forbidden to everyone. The emperors could have some and of course, the wealthy. But these days, it’s available to the masses and even shows up in U.S. restaurants. Black rice is the “perfect choice for vegetarians and vegans looking for additional protein”. Learn more: What Is Forbidden Rice? | Eating Well

(3) Black sesame seeds are not the lighter sesame seeds that are colored black. The black color comes from anthocyanins, which are a type of flavonoid with antioxidant properties. Plus, they are a great source of calcium and magnesium. Learn more: What is Black Sesame, Actually? | Sporked

Foodie Friday : Who Loves Nachos?

This foodie blog is US-based but readers and subscribers are from around the world.  I grew up in Miami, Florida (USA) and I never really knew anything about nachos until I moved from Florida to Texas in 1987. That basically means that I was on planet earth, living in one state in the same country, for about 30 years before I knew there was such a thing as nachos.

Since I am sharing content with a global community of foodies and food lovers,  I may be talking about a snack or fun food that some of you have not heard of.  So I'm wondering …

Do you like nachos?

For those of you who don't know nachos is a plate of corn tortilla chips smothered in melted cheese and you throw on any additional toppings that you like: ground beef, chopped tomatoes, chopped green onions, salsa, whatever! Nachos are really popular in Texas. It's a great snack. It's fun food for a party.

Desserts Made With My Favorite Ingredient. Cool Whip!

Desserts! YUM! There are very few people in the world who will refuse a delicious dessert.
  • Parents tell their kids: “If you eat all your vegetables, you’ll get dessert!” or “Finish your food or you won’t get any dessert!
  • Kids grow up and tell themselves: “Life is uncertain. Eat desserts first.” ☺

Sometimes It Is OK to Eat Desserts

If you live in the USA, then you know that there are certain times of the year when eating desserts is totally OK. From October through December, because many holidays are celebrated, indulging in and enjoying desserts is expected. Is it any wonder that these 3 months are my favorite time of the year?

A few years back I signed up to receive a free newsletter published by FaveSouthernRecipes. This publication supplies wonderful recipes that are submitted by various people. The contributors could be professional chefs or everyday cooks. One of the issues was loaded with recipes for desserts. There were twelve (12) easy recipes that used my favorite secret ingredient Cool Whip.
  • REFERENCE: “12 Easy Southern Recipes with Cool Whip.” Edited by Terrie Hayes, FaveSouthernRecipes.com, Prime Publishing, LLC., 7 May 2015, www.favesouthernrecipes.com/Recipes-for-Dessert/Easy-Southern-Recipes-With-Cool-Whip.
Elvis Presley’s love of bananas, peanut butter, and bacon is legendary! One of the recipes is called the “Ode-to-Elvis Poke Cake”. Here is the description provided at the site: “The King’s favorite flavor combo of bananas, peanut butter, and bacon comes together in this easy Southern recipe with Cool Whip. Moist yellow cake (with peanut butter added) is topped with banana cream pudding, Cool Whip, crumbled bacon, and a peanut butter glaze.”

What??!!! This should be illegal. LOL.

Do You Like Cool Whip?

Who likes Cool Whip? Believe it or not, this is a question that causes a divide. There are those who view it as fake whipped cream and say it’s advertised as “imitation whipped cream”.

I say: Cool Whip is real enough for me!

There are many Americans, including me, who are very pleased that William H. Mitchell, a chemist who worked at General Mills, invented this food product. I can quantify “many”. Statista.com reported that “126.43 million Americans consumed Cool Whip in 2018”.

Fun Foods and Snacks For a Movie-at-Home Party

OK. So at one of my partner blogs, I came up with this corny, cheesy idea for a Saturday Afternoon at the Movies party. Corny and Cheesy? Hmmm? It makes me think of food!

What kind of food should be served at a movies-at-home party?

Of course, the easiest foods for me to think of were popcorn, pizza, and candy. But I wanted some good movie snacks besides popcorn.  Thank the Lord for the Internet. It was so easy to seek and find ideas for family movie night at home. Of course, you know Martha Stewart had to contribute her suggestions. And also, FoodNetwork. Where would be the food-loving world be without them?

There are some websites, not well-known by way of TV shows, but they are popular on the world wide web. Sites like BuzzFeed, Brit+Co, Tasty, etc. They usually have lots of food-related stuff.

So if you have plans for movie night (or an afternoon at the movies) at your house and you need any ideas on what to serve, here are just a few. Have at it!

No matter what snacks you make, just don't forget the popcorn. Hey! It's tradition!

Also ... break American tradition and throw in some sushi!

Have fun!!

Planning a Party? Give a Memorable Party Favor

In the USA, we have a practice at parties. We give what's called party favors to the guests.

* A party favor is a small gift given to the guests at the occasion. The host (person throwing the party) gives it to the guests as a token or a souvenir to take home with them, a gesture of thanks for their attendance, and a keepsake or memory of the event.

If you have this custom, what kind of party favors have you given away OR what particular party favor do you remember receiving?

I can't remember as it's been a while since I've been to a party; for myself or to take one of my kids. But I do know that I've never been to a party where one of the party favors was a fortune cookie.

If I can make a recommendation.

The next time you throw a social gathering, consider giving out fortune cookies. Homemade, ready-made or custom made

Most people like to read their fortune. Even if they don't believe it, it's amusing and fun. If by coincidence the fortune comes true, they will always remember where they got the cookie!!
