Foodie Friday : Food Blog Spotlight : Cook, Mix, Mingle

Cook, Mix, Mingle is a blog that explores the cultural diversity of South Florida. But since many posts are about Florida cuisine it could also be sub-categorized under food blogs.

Been actively blogging as one of my primary home business projects for years. Publishing my various blogs is rewarding and enjoyable work, but reading blogs by others is eye-opening and a lot of fun!  Every publisher is so unique in their style and method of presentation.
  • Cook, Mix, Mingle would likely be viewed as a cultural diversity blog.  But I like all the food finds. ☺
The former publisher, Lawrence Jean-Louis, (she sold the blog) is a young lady who currently hails from South #Florida and has Haitian roots. She shares all sorts of information about the area but my favorite posts are the ones about food. For example: In a blog entry dated February 10, 2014, readers were directed to five #YouTube channels on #howto cook #Africanfood. If you ever visited or lived in South Florida (or Haiti), then you know many of the #recipes for the dishes served in restaurants or private homes, for that matter, incorporate the flavors of the African continent. What a fabulous find for #foodies!  Five food channels right at your fingertips!  This post should be featured in a Food Lovers Guide.

Cheesecake ... UM? Heaven? Delight? Joy? Who Cares? It's Cheesecake!!!

Cheesecake heaven ... delight ... joy ...
dressed up or plain.

No matter.  It's the best dessert on the planet!!

July 30th is the official date set aside for National Cheesecake Day.  But for me, it's an occasion to extend throughout the entire year.

Happy NATIONAL CHEESECAKE DAY!

Happy for any excuse to enjoy a piece of cheesecake! :)

Gourmet Cheesecake is the ultimate dessert gift for the ultimate dessert lover, try these cheesecake gifts.

There are many wonderful sites where you can purchase these fabulous gourmet food gifts online.

Does a Carrot Spice Cheesecake sound tempting? CRAIG'S CRAZY CARROT CAKE CHEESECAKE is available at The Cheesecake Factory. Also tempting is the classic New York Style cheesecake and a decadent Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake.  Tough decision huh?  Hard to decide if you want to be generous and buy it as a gift OR get it for yourself and eat it all?  I know.  I'm weak too and find it difficult not succumb to the temptation.  :)

Mango is my favorite fruit, and I love fried rice!  Never thought to put them together.  :)

Have you heard of Chicken Gumbo? I didn't know that this chicken recipe is a well known dish in USA since the 18th century. One of my Facefriend had recommended me to try out her Chicken Gumbo recipe which she had uploaded online. I found it a very exceptional exquisite recipe, all-in-1 chicken stew that ...

Homemade Prawn Dumpling Soup

Homemade Prawn Dumpling Soup - LiteracyBase

I started to fall in love with dumplings since my childhood days. Mom used to homemade dumplings which were large, fulled of generous fillings and super delicious soup. She always added generous heaps of mixed minced pork and 2 large tiger prawns for the dumpling fillings.

Chinese Soup: Tofu with Kelp Soup

When I was young, mom used to make delicious Chinese soup for every day meal which is clear, not thick or brothy at all. Most of her Chinese soup was light, clear and comforting that soothes anyone who was losing appetite or sick over mild illness ( fever, cough, diarrhea, etc).

Rice Vermicelli Noodle Soup

Rice Vermicelli Noodle Soup - LiteracyBase

I simply LOVE my mother's Rice Vermicelli Noodle Soup, compare to my mother-in-law's version. The soup itself is tasty , even though she had used Knorr Chicken Cube Stock and the additional fried chicken fillets, crab sticks, scrambled eggs and cooked white cabbages were just FANTASTIC !

Everyday Exotic Spices ~ Foodie Friday Annual RoundUp

Last year I started a series called Foodie Friday. It's a new year, and I may continue this series or start a new one. I'm undecided. It's only the first week of the year. What's the rush?  I've got a little bit of time.

Since most people usually do a review of their previous year's efforts anyway, I'm sharing my list of posts that were tagged “Foodie Friday” in case you want to visit or revisit. Enjoy!

Mystery Oreo Cookies Taste Like What?

Please!  Please!  Please!  NO!  I'm not imitating James Brown, the late great godfather of soul.  But I am begging!  Please!  Oreos are as American as apple pie!  Per Wikipedia:
In the United States, they were sold for 25 cents a pound (453 g) in novelty cans with clear glass tops. The first Oreo was sold onMarch 6, 1912, to a grocer in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Oreo Biscuit was renamed in 1921, to "Oreo Sandwich." A new design for the cookie was introduced in 1924.

Please don't mess with Oreos!

During the year (2017), there was a controversy about rainbow Oreos.  I survived it.

Now Oreo reveals its mystery flavor and "many tweeted that the cookie tasted like Fruity Pebbles or orange creamsicle".

WHAT??!  I object!

Whatever!  Forget about it!  ☺❤

People do have different tastes and there is lots of food diversity to go around the world ten times over.  As long as Oreos can be used for world peace, it's all good.

Tropickles! OR Tropickles? Walmart's Idea for Satisfying Cravings

Not sure if this is an idea who time has come or what!  Yes, I know lots of pregnant ladies crave pickles and ice cream.  But can you ever remember anybody craving fruit punch flavored pickles?  Not sure how the foodie folks at Walmart came up with this idea.  Maybe there were a bunch of pregnant ladies working in that department.  ☺

As usual, PopSugar is on top of things all thing food-related and has published a review of this product.

Chowhound also has something to say about them.

“As unconventional as it may sound, this unlikely flavor combination is one for the books. Tangy-sweet bread and butter pickle juice against a salty peanut butter topping makes for an incredibly rich, balanced ice-cream-eating experience.”

A 24 oz. jar less than $2.
Are your curious to try them?
Great Value Tropickles at Walmart.

I shop at Walmart a lot. But when it comes to strange and exotic foods, I try to talk my kids into trying them out first.  What?  I got the idea from an old cereal commercial I used to watch on TV where kids were curious to try a new cereal and the way they tested it was to coax their baby brother into eating it first.  If he liked it then it must be OK.  So?  If it's a new food product?  If my kids like it, then it must be OK!

Rainbow-colored Oreo filled with controversy ~ Whatever!!

When it comes to rainbows, nobody loves them more than me.  Have loved rainbows all my life and don't plan to stop even if people try to whip up a controversy surrounding them.  That's how I feel about rainbows.

First I saw a tweet posted by @ItsFoodPics, and then saw a YouTube video titled "Rainbow-colored Oreo filled withcontroversy".  Seriously?

Controversy?  Oh no!  More like extreme upset!

I'm extremely upset because when I tried to shop for rainbow Oreo cookies online I couldn't find them!!  WHAT??!!  They're not for sale!!  WHY?!

How I feel about rainbows is the same way I feel about Oreo cookies.  Don't even think of trying to separate me from some Oreos and a glass of cold milk. 💕

I'm making a public statement. It's a shout out!  Nobody, anywhere in the world, should ever use rainbows or Oreo cookies to stir up controversy.

Oreos can be used for world peace!

Foodie Friday : It's Flipping Foodie Friday!

Are your weeks flying by fast or is it just me? Feels like it was a #FoodieFriday just a couple of days ago.  One week passed already and it's time for another post!

So this is what I'm sharing. Ever hear of Flipboard?

Heard of it. Tried it. Got confused because of my pea-sized brain and gave up on it! It's a good thing that my online friends are persistent. One fellow blogger says she is using this fantastic tool and enjoying much success! She was so bubbly and energetic, I decided to have at it one more time!  Eureka!  I DID IT!!

This time I created my Flipboard account ( https://flipboard.com/@cmoneyspinner ) and a brand new magazine. See content below.

My I Like Eating Channel on Flipboard

Tweeted it out for Foodie Friday. ( When I finally get something to work right, I have to brag! :) )

Just before I got started, received a link to an article in my eMail that explained how easy it was to publish successfully on Flipboard.  That really made things clear. After my account and my magazine were both created, I add the Flip.it bookmarklet sharing tool to my browser bookmarks bar. From that point forward, it's all been smooth sailing.

Did a search on Twitter with the terms “#FoodieFriday, Flipboard”. The results are fabulous! Wish there were more. Nevertheless … Enjoy! :)
